Why I care about diversity
My family is unique and diverse. I grew up in a home where multiple languages were spoken (French, Creole, and English) and where there was much cultural exchange amongst friends in the diverse New York City community around us.
From the time I was very young, I wanted to see and experience the world. I had a sense that there was so much more I needed to take in and encounter. Fortunately, I’ve been able to travel a great deal, and to live and work in other countries far from home. These adventures have marked me and have significantly shaped my appreciation for the beauty of God reflected in his global creation.
As a school teacher, I loved to share stories from my travels with the children in my class. I wanted them to also know the power of their own stories and to see themselves reflected in the books we read. I continue to do this with my own children, sharing with them my passion for heritage and history.
