About us / Ally

Trisha Vuong

I have been home educating my 3 children for the last 9 years. I have a passion for encouraging moms in their homeschool journey, and finding great living books. Dare me to a game of Settlers of Catan!

Why I care about diversity

Growing up as a Japanese American minority, and married to a refugee from Vietnam, I am very aware of the lack of representation of diversity. Across any platform of influence, the disparity of multicultural figures continues to be an issue. It breaks my heart when I hear people say that it is sufficient now, and that they see people of color all the time now.

Hearing stories from all over the world, from people who look different from yourself, will not only make them more tolerable, but better, more welcomed and loved. Exposing ourselves to different voices will help our children find confidence in their own. The classic literature and films that we see on every recommended book list or Instagram post can use some thoughtful updating.

My kids are also involved in the entertainment industry, and it is very rare that in a cast of a dozens, we see more than one person who looks like us. In our homeschool, I want the books, films, and leaders we study about to come from all different colors, socio-economic, religions, and backgrounds. In order to comprehensively understand and reach people of all nations, we must learn about their culture. In that, we can also see clearly the beauty and creativity of our great God.
